Auburn is a Spread team that uses a lot of Wing T concepts (Buck Sweep, etc.). However the bulk of what they run is Zone Read, Power Read and 2 back Power / Counter (often from 20 personnel sets).
When Malzahn first started as a HS coach he said he had no clue what he was doing so he bought "Deleware Wing T" by Harold Raymond and followed it to the letter.
His offense evolved to more of a Spread as his career went on but he always incorporated Wing T concepts.
BTW Nick - Joe didn't say Auburn is "Shotgun Wing T 70% of the time" he said "Auburn is Shotgun Wing T & will run almost 70% of the time," which is true. If you're going to be argumentative at least read.
ok but it is still the point..Joe said "Auburn is shot gun wing t!" AND NO THEY ARENT!!!!! IMO
I like Joe Id like to think we are freinds , but geez people come on not everything he says is gospel truth!!! he was wrong here!!!
Auburn frequently runs Wing T concepts so yes, they are Shotgun Wing T just not exclusively which I haven't seen anyone claim they were. Only siths deal in absolutes, Nick. Shotgun Wing T is most def part of their offense. Now knowing you, you'll keep arguing and talking out of your ass anyhow so have at it.

You are way too caught up on formations & not thinking scheme. Can we agree that their scheme is wing T inspired? Buck Sweep is Buck Sweep even if you run it from empty with jet motion.
In 2015 Auburn ran the ball 531 times & Attempted passes 290 times so they ran about 65% of the time, I think almost & about are words being near. There is no reason to be anal about the numbers.
Coach Malzahn openly states his offense is based on Wing T principles. This isn't anything shocking. I also have no idea why it's a bone of contention.

Is this "Coach Malzahn" guy supposed to be some kind of expert on the Auburn offense?

Careful... using Anal and Bone in the same post will surely get Nick stirred up even more...

Thanks for pointing it out.

well.. I just watched every play they ran this year.....and I guees we have a different opionion of shot gun wing t...shot gun wing t is either red/blue with the fb next to the qb or behin him in the pistol look...same with 100/900.....
I see Auburn in the shot gun with off set I and jet motion, and they sometimes have one back with a wing and use jet motion--BUT SHOT GUN WING T--NOPE....imo
Wing T is a philosophy, not a formation. This is what most don't understand about the WT, which is why they suck at running it.
For example, we run 2x2 spread out of the gun, w/ an offset back, and we run the WT out of it.
It's all about having fun. But losing aint fun!
wing-t isn't a formation. Just because you line up in 100/900 or Red/Blue it doesn't make you wing-t. That would be like saying just because you line up in double slot you are flexbone or run and shoot. The zone and zone read stuff that Auburn added is more resent additions to the offense so is the power read stuff. The zone stuff came from Malzahn's time with Herb Hand.
No one said IT IS JUST A FORMATION!!! BUT!!!!!!.....you must run certain formations to run the wing t....AND STOP WITH THE "THEY RUN WING T CONCEPTS!!!" EVERY OFFENSE IN THE WORLD HAS SOME WING T CONCEPTS!!!
AUBURN DOESNT RUN THE SHOT GUN WING T....I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS.......OK THEN I RUN THE SPREAD!!!! I DONT CARE WHAT YOU GUYS SAY--EVEN THOUGH WE ARE DOUBLE TIGHT DOUBLE WING I SAY IT IS THE SPREAD
RIDICULOUS!!!
Somebody please settle this before Nick figures out how to change the font size.

Uh, no, you don't have to run certain formations to run the WT. Thats just pure ignorance. No matter how much you capatalize your posts, it wont change that fact. Sorry.

Yes Auburn offense is based on the wing-t offense.. to be specific ... the Delaware wing-t. Gus coached the Delaware wing-t as it was one of the most popular offenses in Arkansas at the time he started coaching.
After taking over as head coach, and being a former QB, Gus developed the Speed spread to cause more deception and increase chances to score from any point on the field.
20 Years ago the spread was a gimmick today it is a staple in even youth football.
wait whats the definition of wing T? Is there a common series? multiple series? or is it a grouping of formations? both? Is it any offnse that runs misdirection? that pulls linemen? Has the definition of wing T been broadened to encompass the jet series? to include not utc versions?
according to bucksweep.com - they have included the jet series into the wing T
according to this site that is actually named shotgun wing T.....
definition of wing T is also broadened to include "not utc" versions such as this.
SOOOO wing T has evolved
does Auburn run some wing T stuff, the answer would have to be yes.
Is this still going to be argued, UNDOUBTEDLY!

You do not have to run certain formation(s). What formation(s) do you feel like you have to run plays out of for it to be wing-t?
A few words of advice
1) Watch yourself on Huey or they will ban you.
2) Never go to Michigan and ask about the wing-t. You'll be in an all out brawl when you explain to the whole state that their wing-t isn't the wing-t.
Go ahead and Georgia Tech the wing-t if you want. Plenty of wing-t teams run out of the loose formation in wing-t terms (some call it Cowboy if you're hybrid wing-t). They do run some belly and down as was mentioned on Huey but they aren't really based on the block down, kick out, and lead through the wing-t is based upon.
