Joe, what is the best way to figure out what teams are in? I was thinking about starting by sending a man in motion to a trips set. Is this the wrong way to go?

Not the wrong way to go, just may not be necessary.  The first thing we teach our QB's to look for when they come to the line is the Middle Of the Field. Is there a man between the goal posts(1 high, 2 high, 0 high). If there is MOFC, if not MOFO, we than go accordingly.

Today when you motion to trips, most teams will "Spin" down a safety & change the coverage. Think 1/4, 1/4, 1/2. So that doesn't always give you a true read. I do like Motion on the goal line to determine the coverage.

Joe thanks for the clarification. New to reading coverages. For a bonus what's your favorite goaline play? If I had to guess you would kill people on naked.

Naked or Power Pass. We run so much Power on the Goal line that Power Pass is just the next step.

Can you go over all players assignments for the Power Pass play. I`m guessing it is some type of PAP off of the run play Power.

On the Goal line we go to a Big (2 TE) package. So  X&Y are Tight the H is aligned like an Off Set FB(outside leg of the G. Z starts out as a Wing on the left. He motions & will kick on Power.

Power Pass

X runs a Hide( he dives inside then pops up runs to his corner.

Y steps down then out to the corner.

Z motions & runs an Arrow to the first pillion.

QB fakes power then a 3 step drop.

Joe

PS We will usually call for the QB to throw the Hide his first look is play side.

Does the BSG pull and wrap like normal power? Does the H back go between RG & RT to lead block? Does the Z motion and kick out 1st to show or go inside of RT to kick out? Does QB reverse pivot and handoff to TB?

Does the BSG pull and wrap like normal power?Yes to fill he doesn't go down field. Does the H back go between RG & RT to lead block? He becomes the QB's personal protectorDoes the Z motion and kick out 1st to show or go inside of RT to kick out? He is running an Arrow, motions across & releases underDoes QB reverse pivot and handoff to TB?It is Power Pass so he fakes to the TB then takes 3 steps to Pass Set.

Reversing out or open lead depends on what you normally do on Power, in our offense we actually do both. We reverse pivot on Power from our Jumbo look which is what we are talking about here. So on Goal Line Power Pass he would reverse pivot Fake to the TB full ride, then take a long 3 step drop. He looks out to corner to hide.

What exactly are the assignments when running the Power run play out of Jumbo? BSG pulls tight around C or G & goes downfield? Is it a PS Cougar? H lead blocks thru between RG & RT? What is landmark for motioning Z? What does QB do after handoff?
Are there any other plays you run out of this Jumbo package? would like to have a 4-5 play series out of this double tight look.

Power Extra is the first play
Power Seal (away from the Motion)
Power Pass
QB Sneak

On Power Extra the Z is motioning to the RT or just inside so he can kick out, H is the extra man finding the first off color he can. QB fakes Power Pass after the handoff.

Power Seal the TE to the Seal side blocks out instead of down & the H back inserts.
