Joe, a few questions about the WR position. 12u football

1) do you give the receivers a route tree to learn

2) do you cone off the routes in the first few weeks of practice to insure they are learning to run the routes the way you want them run

3) do you number the routes or just combo them together
    Ie. slant/arrow, PAW, Slaw

3) do you number the routes or just combo them together In youth we called the combo's at the HS level we number them. At the Youth level you won't have too many concepts.

At the Youth level the most important thing is teaching them to break on the proper number of steps. Start with Hitch, then Slant, Go & Arrow in that order.

Joe, hitch is a 3 step UC and catch step and throw out of gun correct? Reason I'm asking is b/c in your ppt hitch is a 5 step pattern.

Rob

First step is an outside stem, stick the 5th step in the ground snapping around to the QB with the hands up in the diamond ready to catch the ball.

If executed right the ball should be to his outside shoulder as he snaps around.
