Bit the bullet this year and returned to the field for the Solano Ravens 12U team.  I have no kids on the team nor affiliation to the city.  I happened across the old president from the org i used to coach for and he asked if i wanted an opp to coach offense again... So I took it...

The coaches had no offensive experience and were mostly defense oriented dad coaches.  I stepped in on short notice and had to trim down the offense to a bare minimum approach.  So i decided to go all Gun this year and use essentially half of my offense.  The UC footwork for the toss can be a bear for some to teach, and with games rapidly approaching and the fact that I had a solid shotgun center made the decision for me.

I didn't want to abandon the wedge so with the help of some of my coaches that have run my system i started wedging from gun with a hidden fullback. The rest of the offense is standard fare Gunwing Power and Eagle heavy direct snap wildcat.  I still use the Trojan sweep, and all the criss cross counters of the traditional DW.  I am blessed to have FOUR really good runners and a currently average line.  My center and one guard are bright spots.  I have two athletes at TE allowing me to GATE pull on all of my powers and counters.

The inside trap game has suffered a tad since the fullback doesn't get as much action in the gun.. However that's why i use my eagle heavy package. To ensure I get a deep power runner with some carries.

So far so good. WE are 4-2 and should really be 5-1.  WE got up on a team 19-0 in the second half, and penalties, short fields, and a couple of lucky bombs they threw up cost us the game 21-19.  Every week we get better at running the ball and doing what we do.

I put in 13 counter trap from the gun this season to be able to trap out of the gun.  My QB rides the 3 back like on 34, FB counter steps and leads through the hole, Guard kicks the sucker.  It’s been great for me after a heavy dose of power.

Glad your back Jason. I enjoy the back and forth comments every week. I hate to admit this but I’m really loving going full time Gun Murphy style..

@bill03 i am too man! The ability to wildcat with this offense and develop a true 4 back running game from the Gun can be REALLY nasty.....  Once I figured out how to wedge in it i was sold....

@festivus15 The counter trap game is really nasty for sure..  I do miss having the inside trap calls.  I was on such short notice that teaching the line trap principals can be a lot with practice time reduced.

I tried my best to go GOOD/GOD this season, but after a sloppy game 1 I realized I can’t coach it and went back to TKO.  We haven’t lost since, and installing trap was as simple as telling them to point out the sucker and let him through the wall.
