So I have athletic WB's with marginal vision. What drills do you recommend to help them read the blocks on power and counter?
Thank you,
I would stand about 5 yards beyond the LOS in run skeleton in the path of the back on Power. Counter could use the same drill with different backfield action.
We would use a scrimmage strip and cones to mark the hole.
As the back got to the hole, I would point which way I wanted him to cut. If I wanted him to continue straight, I would move out of his way. He had to get through the cones before he made his decision.
This forces the back to run with his "eyes up" after securing the ball.

WALL DRILL......
Kick and Kill ...
Our favorite drill ... it incorporates what we do on offense and gets our backs used to running in tight traffic ... it helps them learn to help push the hole open themselves while looking through the hole to find the LB or Safety and be ready for the hit ...

LOVE the one above JJ...
We do a similar drill called "THE PIPELINE" where I rep our QB spin footwork, toss, pulling from the backside, and running in tight traffic..... This drill can be modified to work counter, power, trap, spin counter, criss cross counter, etc..... We love running it to get reps on counter trap.... Add a tight end at the playside fanning out on a Defensive end and you've got a blast play drill.... Put the FB behind the QB and a kid holding a bag and rep kickouts forever.....
This is one drill we have found on my team is irreplaceable simply because of all the reps you can get in at skill positions and on the line....
This is also a great drill ... I will be adding that one to 'mix up' our kick and kill drill ... thanks
