Honestly it sounds intriguing to me.  However, the lack of faith or "Buy In" by Admin types, spells trouble.  ARGH!

George told me the name of his school.  I'm familiar with them because it's a disaster there.  They've won once in five years.  But this forum is an open resource for him and I reiterated that I'll offer him as much assistance as I can.

Yup id run the same thing I'm running at youth if I went up to HS with all the same terminology... I MAY have more pass plays... To take advantage of a QB with a stronger arm at the HS level... Most of my youth passes are short yardage, he's wide open type of throws.....

But I'd run my Gun/UC DW Hybrid and would most assuredly do fine.... Vaca High School in my city runs the Wing T. Barely throws the ball.. Ground and pound all day and some of the best linemen come out of there....

It can be done...

You can indeed chuck a few "Down Range" however, the key to a good passing game with the misdirection offense is, Great Fakes!!  Great Ball faking all but ensures that, due to the high propensity to Pound the Rock, a 5 to 10 yard pass to a wide open TE or Wing Back can be KILLER!  In that sense you are merely expending your running game with High Percentage short yardage passes.  Now you have that QB who can run, block and throw as a complete weapon.  He doesnt have to have a 40 yard arm...5-15 yards will do just fine!

I will say I have never seen DW work in Florida that I am aware of. This is spread nation. Every team I have seen play is some version of spread. That doesn't mean I don't think it could work, because it could. Because it would be so contrarian you would have a huge advantage just because you run DW. Similar to Joe's old rival school who runs flex bone. They are the only team I know that runs it so you have to prepare specifically for them and as you know when you prep for one team it can get pretty difficult.

We have set a ton of school records at this school and at Old Town prior....and we were  in one of the highest scoring games in Maine football history at BB....so yes, it can work....players make plays, good plays with good players....that gets it done.

A local hs ran it for a year a few years back. They did ok with it. They were not fully committed so it never had a chance.

A local team here ran a version of it. It was a traditional door mat school but it did seem to help as they actually won a couple games but no coach ever stays there very long. It is sad because the school actually does a decent job of supporting the team.

I may have inherited the High School football program here to go along with my middle school program. I have only coached the Middle school for one year but they like my enthusiasm and how I handle the players and parents. I am wanting to use the Double Wing here at the middle school but I want to keep the middle school and high school on the same system. The high school only has one feeder school and that is my middle school. My thinking is that if they get used to a system at middle school, it would only benefit them because they would already be used to it when they reach high school. The high school hasn't won a football game in six years so they need a lot of help. My questions are, Can the double wing be ran at the High School level? and Can the same system be taught for both middle school and high school levels?

Thanks Coaches - George

We had just four seniors on his team and two of them only played part of the season...we weren’t very good however on this particular day, we scored 70.

My favorite team was this group....were unbeaten in freshman season, one loss in two years of JV ball and then this team,,,which , playing a tougher schedule, was better than the 2014 squad that produced the number 8 all time best rushing total ( and two backs over 1000) in Ct....there are clips from both seasons here I believe

So the answers are "yes" and "yes."

Honestly it sounds intriguing to me.  However, the lack of faith or "Buy In" by Admin types, spells trouble.  ARGH!

I have run the double wing and single wing in three different states ...five  schools:

No administrators have given me grief about the offense though there’s little doubt some Dads want the ball in the air more as we usually have more rushing attempts than passing yards...we throw more than I like now because kids and parents enjoy it....our QB has some D2 interest ...our FB has some D1 and D2 interest. ( as a tight end) and consider that Paul Pasqualonis sons BOTH played under me and Tito is now on the Boston College roster...he played fullback and tightened at East.  Andre Bracket jr is a very good dback now at Bryant university....he was a 23 td kid as a wingback...I mean by now The Whole “ holding kids back with a pop Warner offense” thing is easily dismissed.

I’ll add that there is always grumbling about some of my preferred tactics such as frequent onside kicks, though now almost everyone does this a lot....and we try to block all punts and rarely put a returner deep....and folks haven’t figured out that making HALF two point conversions is easier than making all kicks....im stubborn and hate to “ give up” and punt....though I’m doing it more now....

As far as the dw and it’s tight splits and mass momentum...

Nobody will ever tell me that it doesn’t work, or that their are better options....and the big numbers put up by all sorts of kids shows that it is effective and easily adapted to personnel....we have some kids that simply would not have a home in a spread attack.....but I’m smart enough to understand that KIDS drive a program and their parents too....it’s not there FOR ME. I also know that we are better off if I know what I coach and coach what I know. It’s not an issue to split the ends now and again.

Will it really kill a double wing coach to throw the ball ten times instead of 4-5? Sure it can cost you a few games if sacks, drops and interceptions are the result....but know this ...PARTICIPATION is critical right now.

Steve:

My post was not directed at the Double Wing.  Rather the perception that the Admin doesn't really buy in to the football program at all.
