Keeping this chart at GAMES is very important because as the game goes on (& for HALF time adjustments, etc.) it shows WHERE they are trying to attack us, and where they are having the most success.

The ATTACHED chart is for the WT-6, but can be modified for ANY defense (OUR WT-6 later EVOLVED to the modern 4-2-5):

Bill, would you run the WT6 at the younger level 7th-8th grade. Our Varsity runs the 4-4. V Coach is ok with us running a 6-2 or 4-4 at this level.

The 4-4 is really nothing but the Wide 6 with the Ends (or if you prefer to call them OLBersd) OFF the LOS.  Just take his 4-4 & move them ON the LOS about 2-3 yds outside the TE.  When Va. Tech does this out of their 4-4 - they just make an "UP" call!

PS:  "Bear" Bryant was a great Wide-Tackle Six Coach (he called it "NORTH").  Note on this page from his defensive notebook that he could make his 6-2 a 4-4 simply by a CALL that had the Ends line up OFF the LOS (ATTACHED):
