Hey coaches, I just discovered the forum and I've been trying to catch up. Does anyone still run the killer bee? How has it worked lately? Is the video and PowerPoint still available or does anyone have one on a shelf they would be willing to part with or make a copy of?
Hey coach. Welcome to the forum. We've been running some version of the KB on and off for over 10 years. Great defense, especially when teams try to run Spread. Up front, the idea is to force the offense to block 4 guys with 5, 6 or even 7. Then the secondary is all about spacing.
The founder of this forum, Clark Wilkins is still selling the materials. Last I checked, he wanted a gift card for $50 so he can take his wife to dinner. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you in touch with him.
Game plan? I got your game plan. We gonna run the bawl some. We gonna throw the bawl some. We gonna play some defense. We gonna run some special teams, but we better not run kick return but one time and we sure as heck better not punt.
@gumby_in_co yes I would appreciate that. I'm going from 8u to 10u (in our league you age up with the kids as they go to the next level) next year and the previous 10u coach pretty much just ran a 4-4 stack and a 5-3 with a couple of stunts and had mediocre success. In the past the opposing teams have ran about 70% sweep outside run, 20% inside run and 10% pass. Reading about the bee it seems like a good fit that isn't the standard coach-tube defense package for $9.99. My email address is firerescue3122@gmail.com
I sent you a PM with Clark's email address. I really think the KB is a "Swiss Army Knife" defense. Seems to work at all age levels. Easy to adjust to run heavy teams, then pass heavy teams. And by "seems to work", I mean it won't hurt you. Like all defenses, you need some dudes (at least 2) and you need to know how to coach it. Clark's stuff has a ton of info and a ton of detail, but not a ton of organization. I'd recommend reading it cover to cover a couple of times before diving into particulars. Get an idea of what Clark is trying to do first and where some of the details are.

Good morning Coach. I have also run Killer Bee in the past and will be installing it with my 7u team this season. It really is a well thought out system that allows your better athletes to play in space without a whole lot of rules to worry about. I really think the line play is the key, especially at the youth level. If you follow the instructions to the T, you can tie up the entire offensive line with 4 of your weaker defenders, and put your best guys at the safeties, Mike, OLB, and CB. Just a heads up, you will not have it down just by reading through the materials! It will take you a few trips through the manual before you even understand Clark's line of thinking, but once you do, it makes perfect sense.
Now, if you don't have at least 2 other coaches that will actually learn the system and help you coach it, don't bother. It's too much for one coach to handle unless you've been doing it for years. Coach Gumby may very well be able to do just that, but you will need solid support for a while. I have run the defense and studied it for the last 4 or 5 years, so I will gladly help you any way I can!
Good luck Coach! Keep us posted on how it goes. If something isn't working for you, let us know!
