We played 11 games. Third graders.
Saw 1 40 front 3 50 fronts and 6 60 fronts and one D that I have no clue on….neither did their coach so scratch that one completely. That team was just awful.
We did outstanding vs the 60 fronts but had to work overtime vs the odd fronts and that lone 40 front. We ran a Pro Style front with one TE most of the time in our Regular Offense. We ran both strong and weak equally and relied on the off tackle plays.
My theory is that LB’rs were the real difference. The more you have….the harder it will be for the Offense to execute if they execute well. We handled that extra down defender with no real issue but those extra second level defenders were a handful.
Just wanted to throw that out there for all the coaches coaching Smurfs using the 60 front. A call that stunts you into a 40 front I believe would be a great idea. Honestly a full time 40 front at the youngest levels I think is a bad idea…but as a stunt….YES! Im an odd front coach but wanted to throw this out there for the even front coaches to chew on.
Food for thought for the off season.

I thought you said half of your offense was 2-3 play Beast Blast stuff- like what you ran all the time in your final game- do you run your Beast Single Wing thing with 1 TE?

Nope...Beast was a portion of what we ran. We actually ran 3 Offenses....DCWT....Beast....and a really neat little under center Spread package we made up that did well.
Relied on Beast early on as the kids learned. Probably where you picked that up. What I noticed about Beast is the more first level defenders.... the worse off the D was.

THis is what you told me on 11/6: Now I'd say its 60/40 unless we were getting heavily scouted.... then I ran Beast a ton.
Thats why I thought what I thought- almost half, then almost all in your title game- Congrats

Yes 60 Regular O ( Wint T / Spread ).... 40 Beast. Used Beast a bunch in short yardage and PAT's. We did start kicking PAT's late in season when the points didnt matter....we made one....out of probably 10 tries. Next year. 😉
Beast 80% or more in the Championship....thankfully we had that or we lose that game. My son and I were talking yesterday....I think at the Smurf levels you could run a 4 or 5 play Beast O for the entire season and do really well. What made it all work for us was our Beast Center. He played ROT in our Regular O. His snaps were fast....directional...and right in the RB's gut 95% of the time. We needed his blocking skills at OT when in Regular. We were lucky to have him. Our Blast plays hit really fast just like in your O.
All that aside…you should think about a 40 stunt for your D. When a team is gashing you off tackle I think it’s a great call especially since you understand the 44 so well. We played 3 teams that ran your O and your WT6 D and not one of them was a slouch…but we had the off tackle plays.

We dont struggle off tackle with it- we have been fine with it off the base- and then with some of the adjustments. We only had 7 TDs scored against our first team D all season etc We arent changing what's workin 😉
We like getting our MPRs those snaps on defense, that's how we're able to average 40 ppg- 😉
Will you be posting any film?

A few of the parents are creating a private Vimeo Channel. They took really great film this season. I was very pleased. I learned last year that is hard to do. I am not sure when that will be done but I will PM the password too you.

I got 5 Award Requests from an Org in your league= all 5 made the playoffs, showed improvement etc:
One of them went 11-0 at the 4th grade D II level- scoring 387 points and allowing 51 (only 6 in the playoffs) with 5 shutouts. While doing this his team scored a 90% in the JFMA's Honor and Integrity ratings.
What are the HI ratings- what do they mean?
Are these guys for real?

This is rare. I only know of one team that crushed everyone and won the H&I Award. Scoring in the 90% is high marks. That means they beat everyone into the turf and the opposing Staff had no problem with it....if you know what I mean. A guy like you could pull this off.
When a Team reports its scores each week it must first rate the Officiating Crew and the Opposing Staff. There are 5 questions and you rate them 1-5 I do believe. Its been a few years since I reported.
Then the Officiating Crews numbers are added up after the Regualr Season and the highest rated Crews do the playoff games. At the half time of one of the Champiohsip Games....there 18 I do believe...the League has an H&I Awards Ceremony where each team that scored the highest overall for the entire Regular Season ...the staff and each player get a nice patch.
So yes...it is a big deal. I have never won one. We have won one week but not an entire season.
I just looked...Thorton Thunderhawks won the 4th grade D2 Championship. Their entire Org runs your Systems from 2nd thru the 8th grade. They did not win the H&I but came close. I watched them play week three as we were playing their 3rd grade team right after them. THEY ARE SMOOOOOOOTH. Its the game where the kid got hurt and the Ambulance had to come delaying us for hours. It was a Thunderhawk that got hurt.
Oddly...this Org was started by one of our Player's Uncle. They played in PW and joined our League last season and did really well. The JMFA Hazza Gazza's are VERY happy with this Org. They run a clean ship and work hard. As a comparison another former PW team joined the league just this season and I dont think they won a single game. It takes time to dial into an unlimited weight format but the Thuderhawks did really well.
They are the real deal.

Thanks for the feedback
Always good to hear the guys using my stuff arent knuckleheads
THAT IS COOL- big time investment, impressive the H&I program- well done!
All 5 reported that they finished with an H&I score of over 90
That is impressive, because they were all like 9-2, 7-3, 11-0 etc
If I remember correctly, they hadnt done really well in PW- thats why the wholesale change in systems etc
As to me doing it-getting a 90+ score probably not- IF the other coach has to rate you = I could have gotten it here at 7-8th or 5-6th. Never a problem in the out of state or out of conference games etc. But these 3-4 grade guys- too many of them dont know what they are doing very well IYKWIM they dont even realize you are bending over backwards to make it as positive experience for them as you possibly can. ::) Had a guy accuse me of not playing one of my tiny kids in a huge blowout win- the kid scored a TD in that game AND got an INT- he played about double the minimum- we have in on film etc ::) The little fart 51 lbs- scored 7 of our 70 TDs- not a starter but he plays a lot etc The better the coaching is, the higher the mutual respect IMO= especially for those that beat you.

I always felt the Shooter was to thin so hence we moved from 6-2 to 5-3. I will say the opposite is true. The less up front the more they run on you or at least in my case unless your in a constant blitzing mode (funny that gets you back to a 5 or 6 man rush)

It's all football to me.
This was the first time I was in a 62 system, and I really liked it. I hated the bear crawlers though. We had seemingly no pass rush, which seemed really really weird. Teams usually used 9 to block, but still. We were also killed off tackle, but that was mainly because our tackles weren't playing it quite right. Once we made that more sound things started to take off.
I think you're right though. I think you should use as many linebackers as you have, and I personally think we had 4 linebackers, but meh. The 62 was working, so why change?
