Week 3 of practice today. Our practice field..a rather large park.... has had 2-4 teams on it most every day. City had a movie night in the Park a week ago at the field. Boy scouts were there shooting off Estes Rockets the other day.

Our State is on fire. Kids get a bit distracted watching these giant slurry bombers fly right over us as they reload at a small airport nearby. The sunsets are spectacular because the air is full of smoke and why everyone is hacking and wheezing.

Has not rained it what seems like months. I blame COVID.

Still...no deaths to report.

17 Orgs in our League. 5 are out. Two are in trouble but practicing. Their local Districts wont rent them facilities especially for games. A few teams from opposing Orgs have migrated to our Org. Our home fields are in an enormous Sports Complex that can handle multiple night games as well.  Im thinking my team might have 8 home games this year.

All HS Football State wide has been pushed out to January 2021. All College Football statewide has been cancelled. Some of the HS Football players I know decided to try out this golf thing and joined their HS golf teams.

Im thinking we just might get one of our Smurf games televised this season. The local Sports portion of the News Stations are going to be bored out of their minds. Im going to start practicing my post game press'rs. Stay tuned. 😎

"Um...yes....I'd like to thank Dumcoach for giving me the strength to fight thru adversity this evening and get this very important win. Its better to win when you have chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles for post game snacks. Its makes things that much sweeter."

What is beautiful, lives forever.

So we are still moving forward as if we are going to play. UIL pushed the season a month for the larger designations, 5A and 6A. Our community league's high schools are all 5A, and as we follow the districts and UIL's leads, we are pushed back a month as well.

If we play and take care of our business, I will be coaching in December, which is a crap shoot in Texas, could be 70 and sunny or 32 snowing with 30 knot winds and a wind-chill of 5 😛 so ought to be interesting...

Last night I helped the board with equipment fitting...it was an utter zoo, because we did not have on site registration to sell equipment...they had it scheduled for an hour and a half...took 2 and a half hours to get everyone taken care of...we ran out of some helmet and shoulder pad sizes...

I went home exhausted, but content...it was good to be around football players again 🙂

None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.

Today marks the 6th week since we started practicing.

We are even doing a scrimmage next week. So far no teams have pulled out. Our FB Director is a bit on edge. We have two teams where coaches are refusing to wear masks and the Community noticed and is complaining. Hope these guys have been fired by now. One bad apple kinda thing.

Every day that passes I get that much more comfortable with the situation. Its football....we are slobbering all over one another...and no one that I know of has yet to miss any time due to COVID symptoms.

I am using 75% alcohol for any human sanitation and spray down the equipment with a Clorox mix nightly.  I use my little beater Van to move equipment. It smells like a hospital...which gives me confidence.

I am confident we will get to game day in one piece on Sept 4th.
