As many of you know, I lamented that last season might be my last one coaching football for awhile.
Fortunately, that might not be the case. My oldest son started playing lacrosse this spring and fell in love with the game. The only way he could continue to play is to transfer to city schools rather than the county schools. Since the city schools also do a lot with software development (what I've done for the last 25 years), I filed the paperwork to send him there.
At one of his lacrosse practices, someone pointed out to me that the middle school football coach is also the guy that runs the rec program. He was one of the first people that I met here and I remember him because he's very knowledgeable, and someone that I could learn quite a bit from. So that night, I signed up to coach my middle son over there (he played soccer last fall is really ready to hit someone) and am hopeful that he'll pick me to run that team. Unfortunately, I won't know until August.
Let's hope it works out. If would be really weird to not coach this fall...

You won't know until August? Really? What is that?

@coachdp - That's when registration ends. They'll figure out if they have enough teams and let me know at that time. I have my fingers crossed as I told them I wouldn't be an assistant coach.

Best of luck to you. I'm very fortunate that there are a whole lot of coaching opportunities in my area.
Game plan? I got your game plan. We gonna run the bawl some. We gonna throw the bawl some. We gonna play some defense. We gonna run some special teams, but we better not run kick return but one time and we sure as heck better not punt.
