This is a series called "To the House" from a Youtube Channel called "Overtime Szn". It follows Pulaski Academy in Arkansas over the 2019 Season led by coach Kevin Kelly. Coach Kelly a) Never punts b) Always onside kicks c) Always goes for the 2 point conversion and most importantly, never cusses. 14 episodes about 15 minutes each.

I've interacted with Coach Kelley once or twice on Twitter. Seems like a great coach to play for. What struck me most is that he's a math teacher and actually crunched the numbers to prove that you're better off going for it than punting.

Thanks for the recommendation, Coach gumby_in_co!

That sounds just like Coach Nathan!

I am going to check that series out.

He calculated that the points per offensive possession increase after always going on 4th down is more than the amount of points allowed increase from the field position loss from not punting.

There’s a book called “Saturday Morning Wake Up Call” that was written by one of Coach Kelly’s assistants that explains some of the statistical process they used to justify not punting, always onside kicking and always going for 2 point conversions.

They also work very hard on 4th down situations.

Trying not to give away any spoilers, one opponent spent a lot of practice time covering onside kicks in the weeks leading up to the playoffs "just in case" they met Pulaski Academy in the playoffs. Any time you can steal practice time from an opponent, it's a good thing.

@gumby_in_co

I just finished watching the series and it thought was awesome.  Friday Night Lights with real football and without the teeny bopper drama.  I shared it on my team Facebook page.

Here’s a podcast with Coach Kelly I listened to a little while ago. He talks a little about his analytics as well as his onsides kicks. I thought it was pretty interesting stuff

More football than drama, right? And the drama was "football drama".

@gumby_in_co

It was flat-out great!

The only thing i like more than a contrarian, is a contrarian that kicks ass doing their thing!

The world could use more Coach Kelley's!

Is this the same gentleman who also runs quite a few gimmicky plays?  There was a coach I read about a number of years ago who sounds much like Coach Kelly.  He calculated that on-sides kicks, not punting etc. was the way to go.  He also ran pretty much nothing except for trick plays.  I found his approach to be interesting.  I was a fan of everything he was doing except for the trick plays part.

If you show up for a fair fight, you are unprepared.

@unstable

This guy definitely likes his trick plays, but in that season, I don't think he ever ran more than 1 per game. It seemed like he had as many disasters with them as he did TDs/big plays.

@gumby_in_co it’s got to be the same guy I’m thinking of.
