Still waiting to interview today. Not until 2:00.
In the meantime, I have had 3 other interviews this spring, 2 for MS coaching positions and 1 for the HC position of an 8-man HS team. I felt that every interview went really well. My one interview with one of the MS positions was probably the most thorough interview that I've ever had. They had called a few days later and wanted me to move on in the process. They asked for a week's worth of practice plans which I submitted. However, it's now been about a month since then, and I haven't heard anything from them. I even sent a follow-up email to them a week after I submitted the plans to them just to see if they even received them. Still haven't heard anything back. At this point, I'm guessing I probably won't. The very first MS coaching position I interviewed for has never replied back to let me know one way or another.
Finally, the 8-man HC position I interviewed for last week. I felt real good about that. The AD was very pleasant and I felt that we got along really good. This would be a very young team. There will be 3 Freshman, 2 Juniors, and 6-7 Sophomores. It doesn't sound like they have much in the way of weight equipment and besides that, the gym is being redone and there may not be access to that for several weeks. Fortunately, I have some KBs and sandbags as well as some agility stuff that we can use. I've already decided that if I get this position, I will use SW and a gun wishbone for offense. Defensively, I've already PMd Gumby because I know that these kids are not going to be able hang with the 8-man powerhouses using traditional 4-4 or 3-2 defenses. I'm going to need a really unorthodox defense for this group. Anyway, I pleasantly surprised to get a call from the AD today telling me that they want me to come back in for a second interview which will be tomorrow at 11:00 am.
I have been offered the HC position at the small 8-man school.

Congrats! Is this something you want to accept? It sounds like a tough job.
Congrats!!

That is what I am weighing.
I'm also waiting on a call about a DC position that I interviwed for a couple of days ago.
Both have advantages and disadvantages.
The HC position. Only have 13-14 players. There's no major expectations. But it's a 25 minute drive and pays less.
The DC position: I know the AD (who is soon to be retiring). I've coached many of the kids in youth ball. It's only a 2 minute drive from my house and pays more. But, there are a lot more politics involved here (which I hate).
I feel like the HC position would be much less stress as it would be more laid back.
Still thinking.
After getting some advice from Dave and contacting the AD of the school I was waiting to hear from about the DC position, I have accepted the HC position that was offered to me. I told the AD that this HC position was offered to me and asked him if I was being seriously considered for the DC position. He said that they were probably going to go with another candidate which basically made my decision for me. I'm very excited to have this opportunity.

Well there ya go. It's always easiest when the decisions are made for you. I'm glad you called him. Good luck with the gig.

It's official. Tonight, I was approved by the school by the school board to be the new head coach.
We will have a team meeting tomorrow. Do some lifting. But, next week is "dead" week, so we won't be able to do anything until July 8. Then we'll have only 5 weeks of off-season S&C before we start official practices in August.
