So a kid I coached about 7 years ago, great kid, very coachable sent me an email today.

"Would you write me a recommendation to enter SEAL training?".

I was kind of floored that he would think of me for this. He and my son were team mates from Middle School through High School and are best friends, he has eaten a lot of my groceries. All District Honors as an offensive lineman with offers to play division 2 football, because he was not "big enough" to play division 1 ball as a lineman.

He decided to not to take any of the offers, instead he was going to go to school, graduate early, enlist in the Navy so he could be a Seal. We talked about it, and I told him the likelihood of even getting accepted into BUDS was low, and finishing the training was even lower. He said he knew that, but it's what he was going to do...I said "well, someone has to do it"...and didn't think about it too much, until I saw him after the first spring semester...he had lost all of his "football" weight and was lean...I asked him what he was doing...

He told me that he contacted a former Seal and told him what he wanted to do and the Seal gave him a workout, running, weights, swimming...and he has been doing this every day since he got the info...definitely a driven individual.

When I saw the email, my eyes started to sweat 🙂 an Honor for sure.

None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.

Congratulations on that.  I've been asked to write many LoR's for players applying for jobs or applying to colleges.  But never, ever to be a SEAL.  That's a big time honor, Chris.

I have written a handful of LOR letter’s as well but nothing close to the SEALS. I hope he makes it! Those guys are the best of the best.
