Why Can't I DW With This?

I think I just had a weird epiphany. Our offensive formation is:

o.....o.o.0.o.o......o

.....o.....o.......o

..............o

Basically 2 wings outside the tackle. The X/Y are about a yard outside. We mostly run jet sweep.

Why couldn't we run DW? The running backs are basically like tight ends. They're aligned about a foot back and a foot deep.

Now maybe you can't pull guard tackle backside... or maybe you could. You could move X/Y to a TE position backside...

Let me see if I can restate the question, and you tell me if it means the same thing:

You've been running a kind of no-motion fly offense from a double slot formation, and you're thinking of adding Markham-style plays.  Right?

So let's check out the premises.  Why did you install the type of offense you have, and what do you think you have to gain by adding this?

If the ends are fast enough, you could run a no-motion super power toss with them as the runners and the slotbacks filling for the pullers.  In other words, switching the roles of the wingbacks and ends for ends and slotbacks, respectively.

Your OL would have a very different role in such plays from the way they'd be blocking for jet/fly runs.  But maybe that's your object, to teach them something different to do.  Same difference with your FB.

We have a flex bone offense. Our formation is just like yours. I had the goal of running DW actions out of it, but with our blocking schemes and no pulling. In short, it sucked. If you want to run DW, run DW. I also struggled greatly to design the counters with a deep FB.

Game plan? I got your game plan. We gonna run the bawl some. We gonna throw the bawl some. We gonna play some defense. We gonna run some special teams, but we better not run kick return but one time and we sure as heck better not punt.

You can run, power, counter, and other plays however you'd be missing some valuable pieces imo of the doublewing philosophy that make it what it is.

I can explain it to you, I can't understand if for you.

I'm borrowing Coach Parker's terminology, but this looks like a Trig set with the ends split out.

Correction, the x/y are one YARD outside the back.

To answer your question, yes you can run the DW with this formation.  Just like you can run DW from the I.  I just wonder why you'd want to.
