How to combat new kickoff rule
Coaches, I want to onside kick all the time. However, with the new rule change, my idea of using Pulaski's Onside kick scheme is out of the window. Many of the plays required contact by my players before the ball reached the 10 yd line. Is there any scheme I can use that will still allow me to kick onside? Dave Cisar, do you have any ideas?
We are trying to drop the ball over the head of the 1st row and coaching the players not to make contact but to run through them and jump on the ball once it hits. It's a more difficult kick but if you can get a kid to give you a short high kick it's very difficult for the front row to cover and the 2nd row has trouble with it as well until they move up to within 5 yards of the front row.
Once they do that, squib it through a gap and you have a chance at recovering a kick on their 40 or closer.
