Coaches

I am a firm believer of kicking onside 100% of the time. However I am playing a team that runs a 8-2-1. I want to be able to switch it up but i NEVER Taught a Deep kick any wisdom to make sure this doesn't bite me.

if you are going to kick deep, here are my suggestions0

1) hash kick, kick deep to the near sideline.  your kicker is your safety.

2) 3 players to 'hash' side should be good tacklers/athletes

3) wide side has 5 players, outside player has contain-he must be disciplined in case you can't bottle them up on the short side.

that leaves you two players-they should be your two best open field tacklers. They are 'free tacklers'-they have no lane responsabilites and can zero in on the return man from the get go.

do you know how good a return man the '1' in your opponent's 8-2-1 is?  and if you kick toward the sideline can he get to it?  can you even kick it that deep(is your kicker strong enough)?

Dream Big.  Work Hard. Stay Humble.

Go to PetSmart and get 2 of those remote shock collars. Put one on your kicker and one on your Special Teams Coach. Every time the ball is kicked deep, they both get a shock. Repeat until the ball is never kicked deep again.

When in doot . . . glass and oot.

Squib if you want to get it to the second line people.  Kicking deep unless you are up 3+ scores is not worth it.  We have a great kicker and we don't do it because every time our HC does it against my recommendations, there is a long return.

I was always taught that they usually put their best players who can run in space back deep.  With that info, why would I want to give them the ball in space?
