When you all kick it onside to this point.

X..X..X..K..X..X..X..X..X..X..X

O......O......O.....O......O.......O
                                        X

Do you prefer the end over end hopper on the ground (traditional high level on side kick)

or a pooch kick (chip shot) that goes over the front line and lands in that spot?

I want it on the ground bouncing all over the place, if it takes a high hop, that's okay too  ;D

as an aside...I think your kicking formation is illegal, I think you must have at least 4 on either side of the ball...

None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.

You might be right, just looked it up, according to our high school rules it did change in 2014.  Last season an official told me it was allowed after I questioned an opponent.

If so, I'll slide the #6 kid over into #4 as he is an MPP anyways.

The rules for opponents are always more lenient.

Or more likely the official didn't actually know the rule.  Neither here nor there.

Any other thoughts on onside kick style?

Actually...yes...

What we do...we put two big fast kids at the 1 and 2 and another at the 3 who has good hands for the ball he doesn't have to be big, just fast and have good hands...we kick to their 1 on the front line...top the ball (so it is bouncing)...our 1 and 2 attack the guy we kicked at and our 3 comes in behind them and falls on the ball. If I understand the rules correctly, because the ball will have hit the ground we can attack the receiver as soon as the ball crosses the 10 yard distance...

None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.

I like teeing it up as vertical as possible and have them kick the fattest part of the football as hard as they can so that it is like a missile about 4 feet off the ground. We aim for the second man in from the sideline on the front line. There is almost always a nice hole there on either side.

This does many things. Now the kicker is kicking footballs with the same ooomph for when you kick it deep or kick a PAT. If the kicker slightly misses his target its still a good kick.  If the front line of the KOR Team wants to try and field it...its like a hot potato. If they don't it typically hits and dies in between the front line and second line before it goes out of bounds. If the angle takes it out of bounds...change the angle slightly and have him aim just inside the  second man from the sideline.

If you REALLY want to mess with them....use 3 kickers.

The film attached in that Thread is 8 year olds. There is a PPT as well.

I prefer whichever one the other team is less likely to have practiced against.  Which means whichever style is less prevalent in their league.  If the kicker can manage it.

That's pretty slick M.  I was planning on using the ABC kickoff from the Right Hash.  But this is just as intriguing (if not more)...  I refuse to kick deep at this age.  Oh the decisions...

Just an FYI  You're Illegal in our league!  You have to have at least 4 to one or the other side of the kicker!  I kick 6x4 all season to the 6 Side!  Only time I kick Deep is if they are giving us (Kicker) way too much respect or none at all!  Just sayin

Not MPP... ONE TASK!  Teach them!  🙂
