On kickoff, you'll often see kickers yell something like "ready on the right," and players yell "ready," and the same is done for the left side.  My question is, should the kicker raise his hand to have the ref signal play before or after he yells "ready on the right, ready on the left?"

Thoughts?

Ref wants the kid to let him know that they are ready first and then he tells him to proceed. Then he can go through his routine

We do that after the ready to play whistle - ready on the right, ready on the left, and off we go...

We stay in our kickoff huddle until we get the ref's whistle.  Sometimes it takes the ref a second to realize we are waiting on him.

We onside every time, unless we are up big.
