I have been using the Wishbone with my rec teams for 12 of my 21 seasons... Whenever I have enough good backs to share the ball, it is my offense of choice. While I have sold over 1,200 copies of the "advanced level" I am giving away the youth version which is perfect through the 3rd grade age, and teaches all the basics you need to move to the advanced system. The main difference is that rather than trying to share a 40 play offense with multiple tags and variations, this version uses a simplified play call system of the most basic plays (Dive, Keeper, Lead, Blast, Sweep, Reverse, Counter, Pop Pass and Flood Pass). Additionally, rather than calling typical numbered runner/hole/action jargon the plays are named and coded (Lion=Left HalfBack, Dog=Dive FB, Rhino = Right Halfback) so plays are easier for young players to comprehend... "Dog Dive Right A" is the same as saying "Bone Base 42 Dive Right Action"
This is not an OPTION PITCH offense at the youth level... it is a POWER and MISDIRECTION offense that puts a premium on putting a ton of blocking at the point of attack and misdirection to confuse and slow down the defense. There is also a minimum of easy to complete passing plays that will punish defenses that blitz heavily. These are passes that most3rd grade QB's can easily complete.

Hello Coach. I coach 5-6 grade. I bought your wishbone playbook offline and my team has picked it up very well. We can even run the option. My question is that I have only one TE with good size. I was wanting to use a back up RB with average size but good speed and hands as my other TE. Should I line up in our normal 3-4 foot split or just split him out 4-7 yards?
I would suggest that you keep him at normal splits. one of the beauties of the Bone is the pure symmetry... no weak or strong side, and while we do split out wide with the NEAR or FAR tag to throw people off now and then, the basic formation remains the same. You can always experiment, but if you run toward or away from the wider split, you might be creating a "tell" that breaks symmetry.

Coach... what are 'normal' splits for 10u and what blocking rules do you recommend?
