I will be assisting a 10u team this fall. The HC is going to use the power I formation. I am looking for any additional information on that system, to study between now and then...particularly info that includes OL info. If anybody can share, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Having been a Power I coach for many years, I think there is often a loss of perspective. Yes you need your best back at TB, he doesn't need to be great(of course it helps), but the best you have. The FB needs to be a blocker,
simply put the best one you have.
Next, spacing; Mike your TB is 8 yards deep. Why? Bill Parcells when he was at the NYG's is on film telling OJ Anderson our TB lines up at 6yds deep, if you line up at 7 your ass will be on the bench. Usually at the age you show we lined them up at about 5 yds deep. Now they can hit the hole fast.
Like any other offense the secret to success is knowing what you coaching.

Nope....look again...5-6 although it would not surprise me if there is a play or 2 where he is at 7-8. Dang kids. 😛
What is beautiful, lives forever.
Anyway, the Power I works great for Youth if you can coach it.
Positives:
4 players in position to carry the ball.
Blocking concepts are easy to teach
Ball skills are easy to master
Deception built into the offense
Negatives:
Compressed set makes it difficult to get the ball outside easily
Need good Gap blocking linemen
Difficult to threaten the field vertically
Overall as a Youth Offense the positive out weigh the negatives. It still comes down to the ability to coach the offense &
put the players in the right spots. We ran a version from 8-22 when I was in Brooklyn, we had great success with the Offense. It is tough hard nosed football that can allow you to make up for the lack of skill by being tough & sound.

I believe you're thinking about the o-line splits and he's talking about the backfield.
Either way it's an inside-out offense and requires some splits by the linemen or else running inside can become difficult. Wider splits means the ball carrier has further to go to get the edge.
Huh...I thought it was just the opposite, that compressed sets made it easier to get outside.

Once again you astound me. Any 32 personnel as a problem with having enough perimeter blockers, off tackle yes outside has issues.
