Some say never punt but does anyone really have a 4th and 21 play?
Sure....first thing to do is never get yourself into 4th and 21 but stuff happens.
This is our punt formation so we always have the option.
Here is 5 verts.
What is beautiful, lives forever.
Mike your gong to think Im crazy but my 4th and forever play is fake jet sweep QB wedge
Tried it on 4th down and 15+ twice and picked it up.
I have throw a deep pass on it as well and it was picked which was kinda like a punt anyway.
Young defenders just cant knock it down, they wanna catch it 😉
2 Things my offense will always have is a Wing and a Wedge

Young defenders? Heck, I saw an NFL player week one make his best attempt to catch a 4th down throw where he clearly had no chance of scoring on and he was pissed he didn't catch it. It looked like one of his teammates talked to him right after the play about what an idiot he almost was but he didn't care. He wanted to pad his stats, screw the team. He walked around for 30 seconds acting pissed off that he didn't catch it.

I think it was one of the nationally televised games so you might of. I tend not to watch the local bs because the Dolphins suck.

I (almost) never punt.
But if it's 15+ yards, and I'm within say my own 25 yard line I'd punt.
Otherwise, I'd run our Empty set, and hoping we've completed a few bubble screens out of it previously in the game. I'd run it straight up the middle.

We have two INT's this year on 4th down. On both occasions, I talked to the player right afterwards and told them I had good news and bad news. Good news is that you made a nice play on that ball - great read, great break, good hands. The bad news is that you didn't know down and distance and you cost us 20 yards. There are always learning moments. 😛
We don't punt even on 4th and long. We have had teams punt against us and they might net 10 yards if they are lucky. I have also had teams go for it on 4th and long succeed enough times to make me lose more hair. We actually lost a game a couple of years ago on 4th and a mile at their own 10 with about 2 minutes to go in the game. Muffed snap, kicker picked it up and navigated his way for a TD to win the game.

You should run that on 1st and 10 so you don't get into 4th and 21..... ;D

This past week with about two mins left in the half on fourth and about 13 on our own 35. I went for it. Didn't get it. They scored right before the half to go up 22 -12. I feel this was huge. I should've punted the dang thing. The difference is though I have a kid that can punt it 35 40 yards. Under my age group, (7th and 8th grade), how many times do you have a kid that can punt it further than 10 or 15? If that's the case, you might as well go for it every time.

When you got a giant at WR that can catch with a smurf covering him AND a kid that can throw it then yeah that would be my punt too
RB Slow Screen, Sprintout Throwback Screeen, and any number of Gadget Plays all average well over 21 yards per play, when we execute them properly, so I'd probably go with one of those. You can't run those all the time, but I can and do run them on any down.

I left out the part where the ref told my kids before the play, "remember, you can't hit the kicker" and one of the opposing coaches interfered with one of my tacklers down the sideline at about the 50.
I still have not gotten past it. 🙁

That's where I probably would have lost my mind telling the ref to ref and let me worry about the penalties.
I once told a ref that the backside TE was tackling my DE coming around every single time and the ref said that he would never catch the runner from behind. I told him just let him go without being tackled and lets test his theory. he told me to just Coach so I told him to just Ref, so he threw the flag and gave my team a 15 yard penalty for the exchange.
???
Sheesh they have no humor
