ive made a decision to go under center for punt this year. the idea is to run rocket sweep and have my back kick it on the run.
im honestly just sick of teaching long snaps.

Read DC's Punt in the DC Wing T. That's a golden play that you can modify to fit any formation.
I honestly just hate punting. BUT, I like kicking extra points so I still teach long snaps. We had toss punt in the past and it worked fine.

PAT and Punt long snapping are totally different skills though (i snapped through HS ball - was too small to do it any further then that).
my problem is, you spend so much time on something that creates risk to your success (nothing worse then a screwed up punt snap). so im trying mitigate risk by running a conventional toss play and kicking on the run (most of my kids play rugby..so this wont be a new skill)

Long Snapping is definitely an art. I am amazed to see more & more D1 schools giving scholarships to long snappers. Players who are just outside the measurable s can get a scholarship by having that rocket long snap.

I know. My comment was half serious. We never tried to get the whole 15 yards as I doubt any youth teams would either. Like I said, the toss punt worked well for us. It was an easy install. Special teams are tough to get in to the level that we would like in youth. I don't know how much time you get coaching ms but we only get 6 hours a week. KO and PAT was the most worked part of our special teams. We rarely punted to be honest and it was mostly when we were up big. 4th and just about anything was a go for it situation from about our 40 in many cases. As you get into the older ages and when the game is competitive that all changes of course.

we get 10 hours for the first 5 weeks (preseason), and 8 hours in season.

So not much more than us. I think it all boils down to what you have time to put in and what is important for what you do. In youth ball, I have bigger fish to fry. I like the toss punt because it starts out looking like we are going for it and the action is either like toss sweep or wing back pass. So if we get it off they might have nobody back or the safety might come flying up to play the alley or whatever and since we were always looking for a line drive kick we might really flip the field.
We ran rocket motion, QB under center, fake pitch and rugby kick it. This put our HB onside for the punt allowing him to recover. No recovery then it usually went OB or easy tackle along sideline. Of course may depend on league rules. Punt coverages scare me.

we play NFHS rules with no extra provisions.
im thinking not even fake toss, but toss and kick.
