...so last night we line up to kick our extra-point.  Our kicker (who only a few minutes earlier finished his soccer game and arrived for our game during the national anthem) goes out to kick the XP.  He doesn't have knee pads in (says they were stolen from his locker), and we get hit with two penalties on the XP:  a block in the back (on a kick?!) and an unsportsmanlike penalty for my kicker not wearing knee pads.  Never seen that one before...

Unsportsmanlike?!

I think that is the right penalty.  The HC is in charge of ensuring that all players conform to the equipment rules before going out on the field.  I think that it is covered under Rule 1.5.

Now, whether it should have been called is up for debate. I guess that it is a safety issue and the kid clearly played a down with the violation.
