OK, weird one. My son plays at a small high school, be is backup TE, and comes in during two tight sets and sometimes as a wingback. Our team has very little depth and one of the starting O-Line guys was suspended. So, my son will now have to fill in on the line (second backup). As a TE he wears number 80.
So now when they may need him at O-Line, he has another set of shoulder pads with a jersey that has number 76, he will quickly swap out pads to play O-line.
I assume this is legal? Or is it not?
Thanks!

Legal, as long as he does not go more than 2 yards down field on a pass play.

No rule in Fed or NCAA says a player needs to keep the same number during a game. Or pads!
