What should I have in it?
What should I have in it?
Cones. Lots of cones.
First Aid kit!
Extra Mouthpieces
Helmet/Shoulder pad repair kit
Towels to dry off the balls in wet weather
Maybe a Pokeball to throw at those elusive runners from the other side of the field

I'll make sure to have a hat to turn backwards as I throw it.
Rule books in a ziploc, ball pumps, spare needles for the pump, athletic tape, sharpies, multiple kicking tees (they always get lost), first aid kit, spare pants pads, mouthpieces, helmet ear pieces, helmet hardware, phillips and flat drivers, chin straps, shoelaces, belts, cleat wrench, screw in cleats. Separate dry bag for phone, wallet and keys.
I keep the balls and cones in a separate bag, that way the kids never go into the bag with the other stuff.

Beer. Ice.
We put together a modular system that works well for us. We use a practice bag AND a Game Day bag.
Practice Bag: is a medium size gym bag. Contains, cones, tees, helmet pump, ball pump. extra inflating needles, screwdriver, small first aid kit, spare practice jersey, towel, mouthpiece, instant ice packs. Anything that would slow/stop a kid from participating in practice if we had to leave the field and go looking for it in the building.
Game Day Bag: is a large rolling bag (think baseball catcher's bag). The practice Bag fits into the Game Day Bag, GDB also has one (or two) extra of every piece of equipment except shoulder pads and helmet. Game Pants, Game Jersey (home and away), thigh pads, knee pads, girdle, girdle pads, helmet Repair kit, more mouthpieces, chinstraps, extra arm pads, slip on knee pads (we have cannibalized them for the foam to cover a hard cast) and a spare cup. Basically anything that can be forgotten or can break on game day. IT's especially important for away games when we don't have access to our storage building.
We have a separate rolling bag stocked full of first aid items that our EMT brings on game day.

For the extra mouthpieces, I buy the bright neon green mouthpieces so that they really stand out that it was 'bought' from the coach. I say 'bought' because they have to buy them by running a lap after practice.

I think I'll just charge the parents $5. Why? I'm shameless.

I bought the XXL pink soccer jerseys that I have players who forget their practice jersey wear for practice.

Extra whistle for that parent that wants to yell from the sideline I have usually already advised them not to do this so now I hold out a whistle and a background check paper. Not many problems after that.
