Sorry but fixing to vent.
From beginning: New HC that has been a AC for me before when i coached his team 2yrs ago. Didn't have nobody that would take the HC. New guy probably isn't HC material but really has a passion for this team and wants them to be successful. So i tell him i will help him and give him advice. So not wanting to spend any $ I find JJs PowerPoint presentation out the net down loaded it and took it to him. Explained exactly what you need to do. Explained TKO to him.
Ok now fast forward to right before season started he end up getting some decent coaches to help him. Told him to have a coaches meeting and explain the Off and told him how to run practice. Showed one of the coaches which had experience what TKO blocking is.
Now fast forward practice. I have my own team so i didn't make any of their practices until that Friday if the first week. My step-son plays on this team ny the way. 35 mins into practice the coaches are standing around talking about what they are going to do. So that drove me crazy from the get go. Get into practice and I'm just observing. Doing tackling drills that made no since. So i jumped in and showef them some drills. Went to the OL coach and was watching them run drills....coach played D1 ball big guy but was running a drill that will do them no good with the DWDT offense. So i explain to HC if your not going to do it in a game your wasting time. Big guy gets offended and first says his done when i was just explaining that it's a good drill but waste of time if your not going to use it in a game. Big guy 6'4" 300 huffs n puffd at me....I Laugh lol.
So i find out they have had 4 practices and haven't installed one play AT ALL. So my coaching just took over. I put them all together. Asked the HC who he wanted to play and where. So I walked them thru it then ran it. Just ran 36 power. Explained to coaches all you to install is power right and power left and wedge for first scrimmage which was last sat. I show up to the scrimmage and they are running SG WBs are not tilted or motioning presnap. They run 7 diff plays and they all look like crap.
So I tell the HC and a AC after the game you installed 7 plays in week.... that's way to many. AGAIN explained all you need is power right/left and wedge to win first game.
Ask my son today.... how was practice. Says great...I sacked the QB when he was trying to hand it off and i talked Bobby"stud kid" twice before he got out the back field. Sacked qb in a pass left. Just tells me they still didn't listen to my advice. I care about the team... one son and 2 nephews in it. But they aren't doing anything i have told them. I just don't understand it. They all know I've been coaching 10 yrs now and I've showed them i know my stuff. I've studied this Off for almost 2yrs now and they have made something beautiful into a complete disaster!
I'm just thinking about not even giving my advice.... which is hard cuz i care about the boys but i do not want to be a part of it. Just frustrated!!!

You are consulting a team in pre season that does not need any consulting.
If they come out 0-3....then they will need some consulting.
The problem is everybody is a coach....until they start coaching. We have all been there done that in the past. Its natural. Show up when you can and do drills but I'd stay really far away from their systems. Plus I would support your step sons team until he starts asking you pointed questions.
Thankfully you have your own team.
My take.
What is beautiful, lives forever.
This happened to me a few seasons ago when I was trying to help my youngest sons teams OC with the DW...... However I can tell you this about the DTDW:
If you are not there on the field FULL TIME the offense will never be installed the way you want or the way you would install it... I told my kids OC the plays he needed, how they needed to be run, etc...
The head coach didn't believe in it and wanted to run both the DW and the Wishbone..... So the kids were trying to learn pulling with the DW and NOT pulling with the wishbone.... What could have been one offense and like 6-8 plays turned into two opposing offenses and like 25 sloppily run plays. They won not a single game... They blamed the OC for running a stupid offense. they tried to eliminate the pulling..... They gave up on wedge..... It was just ugly... coaches will try to piece stuff together and ultimately it's not your team so you have no control... You can be interested and hope that they listen to you but they probably won't.......
The only way to install the offense the way you want to do it is to be the header/OC or the OC who your header has given you COMPLETE control of running the offense.....
The thing is the HC asked me to consult him. They didn't win one game last year. And I never talk about my sons coaches EVER! I do support the team just know the potential they could have.
I know you get know it alls in coaching but don't know much at all about "coaching". Just like I told them...I was the same way my first 2 years and that everything I learned I learned from other coaches. And steady learning. Guess I'm just a lil more open minded then most.
And DWCoach that's exactly what it looked like at the scrimmage....UGLY!
Just going to stay out the way and let them figure it out I think. Actually was thinking to tell the HC you mise well do something different because your messing up a thing of BEAUTY and don't want my name associated with it. I help a lot of coaches out in my club cuz I study the game and have had success...especially with turn around teams. Just frustrated cuz I see their potential as a staff and team.

You went into this thing with the right attitude for sure. Now they have forced an attitude adjustment on you. No sense fighting that....they dont get it....yet.

Save your sanity ... tell your son that losing builds character and stay out of their sandbox ... nothing good comes from this path ... just my opinion ...

I seen the team you are talking about, Saturday. Hey man you offered, now just let them take it and support them the best you can. It's their first year, they will figure it out the hard way. Coach ON!!

This is what I'm going to do! Just stay out of it. I did hear that they are at least starting practice on time now but still trying to pass a lot and put in extra plays. Won't get to see them scrimmage this weekend but will get filled in by my wife. Hope they succeed! My boy is playing DE so I'm just working on him with that.

It's for the best. A poorly run DW is far worse than a poorly run I formation offense, or whatever grab bag they do. DW has too many moving parts, I don't recommend anyone running it that isn't 100% committed to it, and willing to put in the time. In fact, in your shoes I would have recommended they change to something else as soon as I saw what was going on.
Thumbing thru different boards and seen this post I posted 3 yrs ago.
Let me tell ya same thing happen with these guys the next 2 yrs after this post.
I coached them last year in 6th grade and guess what....won a CHAMPIONSHIP. Went 11-1 on season. Not bragging but the point is....coach'em up and wonderful things can happen!!! Didn't run DW, ran DCWT but its called...have a system!!
Thanks to this board the last four years I've became a lot better coach!!

Now go and do the same thing with your now 5th grade son!
Lol this is just the way of the world.
I don't get it. You're mad because those chose to coach their team their way? If you had wanted to coach the team, why didn't you volunteer to do so? Sounds like you're over stepping your boundaries.
