Coaches,

Looking for some suggestions on the following sets. We run DC single wing with the 7-8 yr old level.

This is how I think the team will play us from scout

1.
                      F
C                                            C

      E L  T    T  T T  T  L
        O O X O O O O
                    3          4
              1 2

2.

                    F
C      L                        L            C

    E      T    T  T T  E
          O O X O O O O
                      3          4
              1 2

LBS AND CBS are abt 4 yards off ball. FS about 6 yards off the ball

I thinking of using WAR as an adjustments to control the edge with a no pull call. The would block down and the three would kick the "L" out or seal block

F
                          C
E    L
O
  3 4                    2

Second adjustment brings the 2 back in tighter to block down on the "LB". The 4 back double teams blocks the "End" and the three would block the CB

                C
  E  L
  O
    34      2

In addition , 18 sweep pass with the 4 and 2 back running clear outs and short arrow pass to the 3 back in the flat.

The super formations is an idea in addition to the base, war, and jet series.
  F

                              C
    T  T  T  T    L
X O O O    O
            3 4
1                            2

18 sweep #2. I am of the belief that if you block well 17 power is available against almost any defense. Nasty split the te.

Coach Rob,

Did you mean 16 Power or 17 power?

If you were to nasty split the TE, would have him block down and kick out the end

            3 4
1                            2

Mid and Edge Counts say run Left.  That is where I would focus and here are a couple of suggestions in addition to 43 Reverse that we have had success with:

Double G Mouse 23 Power

Think about the following formations:

LE LG C RG RT PT RE
4                  3
            12

Move the 4 back to the Left Wing.  From this formation you can run:

23 Counter/Reverse
27 Sweep

You can still run:

16 Power
22 Wedge
32 Wedge

You can combine the above formation with Omaha and Run 13 Counter/Reverse while still being able to run 32 Wedge and 16 Power.

LE LG C RG RT PT RE
4                  3                            2
              1

Another formation flips the backs:

LE LG C RG RT PT RE
4    3
            2 1

From this you can run:

13 Power “No Pull”
17 Sweep
17 Sweep Pass

You could also move the 2 out to the Left (think of Omaha to the Left):

LE LG C RG RT PT RE
2                    4    3
                                  1

I hope that helps.

Thanks Rob,

I really like the left formation (base left and omaha left). Why would you not pull to additional number advantage. Is it because it would delay the speed of the play..

C                                  F                            C

                    E  T    T    T    T  T  T  E
2                        LE LG C RG RT PT TE
                      4    3
                                    1

The 4 would double down with the LE and the 3 would kickout the End. Without the pull this leaves the FS unblocked who is about at 5 yards

C                            F                            C
            L                                      L
                E        T      T  T    T  T
2                    LE LG C RG RT PT TE
                  4    3
                                1

        O O X O O O O
                    3          4
              1 2

First thing I see here is 31 Trap. As long as you get a decent trap block by the RG on the first T on the left side, and the LT protects his inside gap, forces the E and L to stay outside and come up the field, not much else is needed but a decent fake from the rest of the backfield. At minimum, the BB gets 3 yards before the F and C get to him. Ideally the LG gets in the way of one of those guys and your BB just needs to break one tackle in space and he's gone!

The defenders head up or gap?

I can explain it to you, I can't understand if for you.

I would also look at having the line change their rules to just SAB for this. I never was a big fan of trying to draw up a defense against the ubsw. You never really know what you are going to get. Even worse when you start tagging the formation. Our game plan in ubsw was usually just to do what we do. Run 16 power. If they stuff it, find out why. I think they will stuff as many as you break for a td. Teams with more second levels players seemed to do better against us than teams with less. That is when we started messing with GOB instead of GOD. Anyway, I think you will be fine in regular ubsw. It is good to have a plan though.

Zach,

The defenders are head-up on both fronts.

Thanks

In this formation I would pull the RG (without splitting the 2 out there is just too much congestion) having the 1 take jab step to the 6 hole to allow the RG to clear.  I would have 4 FBI block on F.

C                                  F                            C

                    E  T    T    T    T  T  T  E
2                        LE LG C RG RT PT TE
                      4    3
                                    1

The 4 would double down with the LE and the 3 would kickout the End. Without the pull this leaves the FS unblocked who is about at 5 yards

I would have 4 FBI block on F.  3 kickout E. RG pull to L.

C                            F                            C
            L                                      L
                E        T      T  T    T  T
2                    LE LG C RG RT PT TE
                  4    3
                                1

I hope that clears it up a bit.  If not feel free to PM me.
