Our league rules requires you run a 4-4 Defense with the DL always lined up on the Guards and Tackles.  The Center must be left uncovered.  If we run DCUBSW the defense would line up like this:

      DE      DT  DT  DE
TE  G    C  G    T    T  TE

You could argue against using an unbalanced line in this instance because it will bring an extra lineman over to the point of attack if they can’t line up on the person snapping the ball.  Aren’t  we better off just running balanced so that the DT stays on the other side of the center, further away from where the play is going?  Would appreciate any views.

Got to ask if you are sure they will line up like above and not like this:

DE  DT      DT  DE
TE  G    C  G    T    T  TE

Both Centers and TE must be left uncovered based on league rules.

What's to stop you from lining up your guards 5 yards from the sidelines?

Even if they do shift, it’s still easy money.  Have Playside down Block and pull playside guard. That defense will be in for a long day.

Splits between linemen can’t be more than 1 yard apart.  That starts with the Center so the Guards can’t be way out.  Thanks for the replies so far.

Understood.  If your T can hold his own and if your Center can crab block to cover for the pulling RG, I would stay with the Unbalanced line as you will only have to teach pulling to one position.  Also, if both TEs have to be unconvered you are going to have a nice Double team on the DEs at both the 6 (Power) and 3 (Reverse) holes.  If C has issues crab blocking you can always go No Pull.

Yeesh. Your league really doesn't trust anyone, to they?

Okay, stay unbalanced, double team the DE, kick out the force defender (whomever he may be) and run off the TE's ass until you're up by 40.

When in doot . . . glass and oot.

Yes, the rules are kinda ridiculous.

Have you ever asked them why?
