Has anybody tried a play where the 3-back trap blocks the nose guard playing head up over the center?  Seems like we could slow down really good nose guards that cause us issues at times.  (We can't block below waist on LOS in our league)

I was thinking maybe you could call it Mouse 10 Trap.  Center would try to avoid NG and block nearest backer, 2 back would pause then lead right behind 3's trap and 1 keeps after his half spin following 2-back.

Rest of the line blocks  On, Outside, Backer?

Thoughts?  Maybe this would be called  Mouse 10 Wham??

We have a play called 20 wham
However we've only run it 1 season with 1 team
This year it's with all 5 teams
When the seasons over will share how we did with it
1 team with 1 year isn't enough data
Could be an unreasonably good or poor team and skew the results

We had a similar play I named buck (HC Tim renamed it Bucktooth), though not exactly comparable because it was balanced line.  It did well largely because it put the ball in the hands of our best runner with the blocking in front and the kickout by our best 2 other athletes.

ISTR what you're describing as a standard UBSW play too, as per Charlie Caldwell.

That will get extremely crowded- the trap block by the BB- is real tight
You DONT need the 2 leading, we release 3 players to block LBs
We run ours off of 43 action- which we run A LOT- we have 1 play action off of it, another playaction we are toying with, then of course 22 wedge and now 20 Wham

This sounds like a REALLY good play too me.

Most odd fronts play their MP's and DT and put a bully boy at NG.

What is beautiful, lives forever.

Dave do you release the Center and both guards?  Good point on being crowed, could run out of base or mouse but snap to the 2 back and call it Mouse 20 Wham.  Maybe the BB takes an extra step to the power side to give a bit more room.

Thanks!

The rule you should follow on any play of this nature is, "Don't block anybody closer than a [whatever] tech to the hole."  That means there'll be some OL who'll automatically release and others who'll need to check a DL.  The snapper should automatically release on this play.  Whether a guard releases would depend on who's next closest to him on the DL away from the one over the snapper.

We don't
No more info
I rarely present ideas that have not been proven in grass by myself with a variety of teams and age groups
Again if you do that you risk being very wrong as you may have an unusually strong or weak team

Have you always run the 22 wedge with 43 action behind it? I don't think I've ever tried it that way... seems like a fantastic distraction though.

We ran wedge with every imaginable action behind it. Much of that was from dw but the point is don't limit yourself with wedge. Run it with 43, spinner, half spin, 47, jet.... what ever action you already run add wedge to that series.

Absolutely. In the past, Rocket 32 Wedge often ended up as our best play by seasons end.

Same can be said for BB trap

Seam/ISO works well with motion too but  Spinner wedge was always a home run play. We called allot on 3rd and long.

One of the things we like playing around with in the dw was running BB plays with XX action behind it. We probably needed to do it more against the better teams but then again we found the better teams were usually reading the guards. Those teams almost always filled C gap hard so a trap would of worked well. Maybe even a homerun play.
