Interesting that you're wedging on the snapper even with the unbalanced line. My impression (never having coached a wedge whose apex was not the snapper) is that it's so much easier to form on the snapper that it hardly pays to have a guard get in front.

One of my ACs was a former rival of ours and he took wedge to a new level. In order to combat cutting his apex, he would move his apex around.
When in doot . . . glass and oot.
I've coached both successfully, but had issues last year with center trying to get on the guard and have a good snap. Letting him snap and ride the wave made it a non issue.
