Journal, entry 1:

Monday we brought the backs together for an exclusive session to begin the process of triple option install. We worked on the footwork.
1. Sidesaddle Back: Step in with right foot to secure snap, then step out with right foot at 45 degrees from LOS while presenting the ball. Mesh with TB who is dive to "cheek" of inside tackle while taking read step with left foot. Eyes on the key which is first man wider than 4 tech. If key opens stance or gets depth, give it removing right hand first and pressing ball with left. If key takes dive, pull it.
2. TB jump cut left and forward so that shoulders face the inside tackle's cheek. Step left then right and cradle ball lightly. If give, close with both hands and run low and hard.

Got many reps in, perhaps 50. Started real slow. Then half speed. Then added a key to affect the read. It started to get smooth towards the end.

During "Indy" we rep'd about 30 or so in the allotted time. Looked smooth. Scrimmaged at end of practice and ran it 4 times. A gap blitzer wrecked it once. Next three were pulled and sidesaddle kept and ran inside sweep for big yards.

Tonight we'll rep in Indy (along with some of our passes). Then we'll walk through various D alignments and blocking assignments. Then scrimmage half on half against some decent defenders and see what it does. We'll throw other plays in to keep D honest.

Work in progress.

Pitch to your Orbit Motion?

Ran Flexbone one season a while back. Fun stuff. Worked well. 7th graders.

@mahonz Yeah, the "jet" sweeper will be the pitch man.

Guessing about 40-45 reps between Indy and Team tonight over 30 minutes combined. Lot's of instruction and quizzing gobbles up rep time.  Dive read was good about 75%. Pitch read was poor. Work on that Monday. In Team, couldn't tell if D was half-assing it or just confused. They looked flat-footed, especially when we mixed in our regular plays: Power, Sweep, FB Sweep, around the option. I'm assuming D was not bringing it. Still have a ways to go but things are promising.

I'm guessing about 30-40 reps total tonight. Mixed results. My "QB" instantly recognizes when he makes a bad read. I take that as progress even though the play failed. They are now what I call "consciously incompetent." The next step is "consciously competent." It's a process.

Looks good to me. That's going to be a fun one for Mahonz to defend. 🙄

Game plan? I got your game plan. We gonna run the bawl some. We gonna throw the bawl some. We gonna play some defense. We gonna run some special teams, but we better not run kick return but one time and we sure as heck better not punt.

Oh you haven't heard? Im using 12 Defenders vs Troy. Im thinking the Refs wont notice. Seriously...who counts defenders. 😎

Im hoping we get this guy as our back judge 🤣

And if Troy adds a 12th, you'll have to play the game in the Great White North.

LOL....that was our last game vs the Far NE Jets about 5-6 years ago and if you remember they loved to pass. I started to notice the BJ was literally in their way at times making no effort to move. It became hilarious and quite lame.

Latest update:

45 reps in Thursday practice

Ran it once against one if the best teams in state to get vid and see how D reacts. Told BB to assume give and do not pitch if he pulls it. The crease we created was spectacular. BB gave it, but the key attacked the dive. 2.5 yard gain. I wouldn't call that a confirmation or a win, more like a "neutral" or "wash." BUT, we got it on film, saw a very big and good D overreact, and we gained positive yards. Ready to run it 5 times against our next opponent.

Baby steps on this.

...tons of green grass outside the key. Only the CB was still out there.
