I notice that much of the info that was visible under the avatar by each post on the old site doesn't display there on the present one, and I miss it.

I never cared to see how many posts someone has had or how long they've been participating in DumCoach.

What I do care about, in approximate priority order, is:

  1. what age range they're [primarily] coaching (or otherwise involved with) at present (or most recently)
  2. where they are (Old board didn't show geography either.)
  3. the O and/or D systems they coached most recently (or at present) for football; comparable details if applicable to other sport
  4. present or most recent role in youth sports (head|ass't|position(s) coach; club|league admin; game official; others)

I might care about years of experience in coaching or other role, but that's hard to quantify and compare, so may not be worth entering.

I'd prefer short answer format for these rather than the multiple choice questions the old board had.  For those unfamiliar with the questions, examples or suggestions could be given on the question form.  Just have a character limit for entries instead of a fixed choice.

@bob-goodman

I have a plug-in that I have been looking into that does that. The information would show up on a member's profile page. It looks like I will have to hack it a bit to make certain fields show up under your name on the posts page.

I'll put this at the top of the To-Do list as it is one of the things that was requested before we moved.

Don't cross my path.

Okay, I got the plugin installed and am working out the kinks before it's ready for ya'll to use. For instance, right now it shows everyone as being from Maryland.  Nope.

Don't cross my path.

Okay, so if people set their location in their Account settings, it will now show on their Profile page and under their name in posts. I will add more items soon.

Don't cross my path.

It's OK having info on the profile page, but will the plug-in also put it in the left column in each post in the forum?  Because that's where it's most useful, if people keep it up to date.  Like when I'm reading someone's post it helps if I know how old their players are.

Take a look now. It may be a little busy with the systems listed.

It is indeed busy with multiple systems like that.  I've got no use for "Diamond", "Silver", whatever anniversaries you've got, but maybe some like them.  Is there room for someone to enter more specific geography if they want to -- in my case I'd say "NW New Jersey" or "Sussex Co. NJ" -- or is it just multiple choice?

Thanks for being so good to us.

Still working on this. I was able to crash the site for two minutes there.

Don't cross my path.

I found this information generally inaccurate half the time.  Answering a post to a Member thinking he was coaching 8u when in reality he hadn't updated in 5 years was a waste of time.  Also listing the number of posts relieves tensions when things get touchy. Creates a necessary hierarchy for the occasional "Cowboys" that show up.  Knowing the difference between an active member and a lurker is important.

Add to that....generally a newbie does not know the difference between an ECO or a WCO or a DCWT or a DTSW or a Killer Bee or a Sidesaddle or a Facemelter ....so why bother.   I do like listing the coaching level and the geography.

Less is more. Its like reading an Obituary now.

@mahonz

???

I am practicing the art of deception.

I found my defense I was looking for.  The front is loosely based on Nate Albaughs Simplest 3-5-3, but we base out of man coverage and actually operate more like a 46 in a lot of ways.

And people  see single wing and usually assume we are a Cisar team, but are balanced lined more than unbalanced, flip the backs away from line strength and even line up 4 wide and empty a lot.  Dave would be the first to tell you, that’s not his offense.

So don’t read to much in to what’s under the name.?

This is why I wish we could have fill-in fields for all the info instead of choice menus, so we could be as specific or vague as space allows.  Looks like we do have that for offense systems (don't remember if it was that way for defense), but it'd be good for geography, role, and player ages too.
