You win and win big....how do you prevent everybody wanting the credit? this comes from a piece on theo Epstein indirectly. The piece or pieces on Epstein are fascinating:

I don't care who gets the credit.  I just want to win.

Seems to me the kids should get the credit. One thing I have learned is that it doesn't matter how good your winning % is, when you win it's the kids and when you lose it's the coaches. I'm cool with that. It does bother me when you win 30 plus games in a row and finally lose and suddenly you have no clue how to coach.

Agreed.  Kids get the credit at the amateur level.  At the pro level, it might be a little different.

I kinda see the same thing in the pros. Those prima donnas would never actually take blame for anything and always seem quick to point the finger. Though, it seems to be pointed at the refs recently.

Haha this happened to me after our play off game this past weekend that we lost. We didn't give up more than 6 points a game on defense all year. We give up 21 and lose and suddenly the player agents want to replace me, lol.

Yeah, but it's par for the course.

When Barry Switzer finally lost a game, in his third year as HC at Oklahoma, against Kansas in 1975, he said a lot of fans said the wishbone was outdated and Oklahoma should drop it.  He said none of them bothered to notice that Kansas had beaten them with the wishbone.

And Oklahoma ended up winning the national championship that year, anyway.

Old friend told me once

Players win games...coaches lose them...teams win championships

I can explain it to you, I can't understand if for you.

I've attached a couple of things that I put in my O-Line "book" that kind of relate to this.

One is by John Calipari and comes from here:

https://www.amazon.com/Players-First-Coaching-Inside-Out/dp/1594205736

The other is by Adam Steltzner and comes from here:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1591846927/ref=rdr_ext_tmb

The formatting is all my own, because that's how I roll.

And I may have edited slightly to make the selected portions able to stand alone without any resulting lack of clarity.
