I've been playing around with the idea of multiple formations rather than more complex plays. Here's what I've thought up so far. Here are the formations
Twins right
A good formation that can get X and Y alone on no body.
...................TE.o.o.0.o.o........................X
Y............................Q.......S
..............................F
Trips Right
A good way to test out coverage and open up space inside to run if they're covering TE and S, if they aren't, it's a good passing threat. Also a good way to get X on a linebacker who might not be thinking pass.
TE.O.O.X.O.O.....................X
............Q.......S.................................Y
............F
Twin I
Good for getting into the endzone or picking up short yards. Also a nice way to blind side them with a power 46, if they put a LB out to cover X. In the classic R&S the S will do a swing pass to the twins side. A good way to get Y on a linebacker who might not be thinking pass.
TE.O.O.X.O.O..............................X
...........Q........................Y
...........F
...........S
The plays would be:
FB Dive (GOOD blocking, backside guard release to MLB)
FB off tackle (Similar to the DW power blocking both guards pull [except in Twin I])
FB counter trap
FB Pitch (Should be pretty effective to the slot side).
QB Sneak: (QB picks hole, Guards preform GOOD block, center goes opposite way of guard, Tackles release to MLB)
Other possible formations:
Five Wide
Useful to see if they have any weakness in their coverage. the 5-3 will probably hate this.
.................TE..........O.O.X.O.O.......................X
Y....................................Q................S.............................FB
Only run play would be QB sneak
Spread Yale
Useful to see how they adjust, do they have enough people to cover quads?
TE.O.O.X.O.O.S
............Q...................FB.............X..............Y
These two would obviously need some pocket protection.
I think this can all be done from the sidelines from a no huddle offense so long as everyone has makeshift wrist coaches and a white board.
thought this would be interesting for you:
I can explain it to you, I can't understand if for you.
Definitely some good stuff. I was thinking about putting in a play called "smash" where we basically do a smash concept. It should be killer with 3 wide.
