Hey guys.
Last year our program made the switch from 12 man to a 6 man format at the last minute. Needless to say we were caught with our pants down a couple times with some new things we’d never encountered.
I’m wondering if anybody has any experience in 6 man, and if they could provide some tips or insight, as we start our spring training. We’re still trying to put together playbooks as of right now. Things that have worked for you scheme wise, plays, anything to shed some light into what works well in this format of football.
We have a 2 man coaching staff at our school, myself and the HC. He’s a teacher, and I’m a volunteer trying to career change into football. We’ve been trying to piece things together but just don’t have to proper resources at our disposal. Coaches with experience, and in depth knowledge about what works in 6 man and what doesn’t, who can help us learn is the biggest resource we don’t have. That’s where I’m hoping maybe we have some coaches here who can maybe shed some light into this different style of exciting football.
With that, Ill open up the floor to you guys, and hopefully we can get some good discussion going.
Thanks in advance for the help coaches.
Can't help you there, coach. In 2006, I was an AC on my son's 2nd grade team. We entered a jamboree hosted by another league. We showed up and took the field for offense with 11 players. The ref informed us that 2nd graders were 8 man in this tournament. I believe we lost 80+ to 6. My son scored the only TD after stripping the ball from a runner.
Tonight, our 8th grade team may be forced to play 8 man against an opponent who is struggling to field 11. I'll let you know how it goes and share what we learned.

They showed up with 16 players, so we played 11 man. This is a HS Freshman team with HS coaches, with 18 players on the roster, yet they struggle to get 11 to show up for every game.

You could contact them-
IN Nebraska I think the enrollment cutoff is 40 to play 6 man
LOts of 8 man football here-total enrollments of 100 or less
yes 40 kids in the entire High School boys and girls
Ive never seen a game- everyone is eligible- may have to try and check one out this year. Closest one is over an hour away.
