We just ended our regular season Undefeated. I have been an assistant coach/ Defensive coordinator with these boys for 5 seasons now. This is the third season we have gone undefeated. Last two we won the championship. We are two games away from our third championship in a row. I couldn't be more proud of these kids. I have seem them mature from 6u to now the transition is night and day.
This is our third year running a single wing offense. Our line is whats sets us apart from other teams we have 5 red stripes that have been coached by a great line coach. This is one aspect of football that i have seen that isn't coached like it should be in my area ( North West Florida). We also have the a great back he is one of the fastest in our league and has the best vision i have seen in a kid his age. We have scored on the first play in 4 of our games this year.
We play a 4-4 defense that is a lot like a 6-2 because our outside linebackers walked up closer to the line. We play 3 deep zone only because our league there isn't much of a passing game. Teams pass maybe 6-9 times a game. However when we get into a 3rd or 4th and long we shift to a 4-3 and one of my inside LBs moves to safety. He has great ball tracking skills for the pass plays. This year so far we haven't given up a single point to the other teams.
We have done all of this while making sure every kid on our team of 27 kids has gotten ample playing time. This is perhaps our best achievement. Over the past 5 years with these boys we have never had a player that hasn't gotten game time.
Out of the blue Elite Youth Talent ranked our team at #16 on the top 20 teams in a national ranking. I know these are all subjective but you should have seen the pride on our kids faces when they saw it.

Seems to be a common problem at the youth level. If you've got a competent Oline coach, you're miles ahead of the competition.
Congrats on the season, good luck in your play-offs.
Umm.... why does that 6 ft tall 9 yr old have a goatee...?

--That's any area.

--In youth ball, that's often the easiest play to score on. Defenses aren't warmed up. They didn't do any real pregame hitting. Kids on defense watching what you're doing instead of reacting to what you're doing because they don't have a point of reference. We took advantage of this because we knew that as our opponent got used to contact, (if they were any good) they would probably adjust to our contact, our speed and our plays. Scoring on the first play in youth ball is a great psychological advantage.
However when we get into a 3rd or 4th and long we shift to a 4-3 and one of my inside LBs moves to safety.
--"...or 4th and long we shift to a 4-3..." So they're not punting on a 4th and long?

--That's impressive. Even in our best defensive year, we didn't shut out everyone.

--Sounds like you don't have an MPR rule.

--It beats the heck out of not being in the subjective top 20. Congratulations.
--Looking forward to hearing about your last two games. Bring it home.
