We made some changes for the second game. They paid off as we beat the second-place team 12-0.

On defense, we were having a lot of trouble with block avoidance against the top team in the league. After re-reading a few threads in here, I re-remembered that bigs typically struggle in space. I lined up in a 4-4 Stack with my linebackers 4 yards deep, put my corners (they'd been playing safety) on the hashmarks, and my best athlete at safety. The linebackers had a field day (no one blocked them), the corners forced everything in, and we recovered three fumbles. Needless to say, I am proud of that group.

We also did much better on offense. We ran well off-tackle and completed three of five 16 Power passes. Aside from getting stopped on downs in the first quarter at the 5-yard line, there wasn't much to be unhappy about.

Let's hope we do the same thing on Saturday!!

Take care of those extra points.  There's a big diff in youth ball between winning 14-0, 13-0 and 12-0.  You're leaving the door open for the opponent to win.  14 points is a 4-score lead.  12 points is a 2-score lead (despite the same number of touchdowns in either).

In the 2004 conference championship, we were down 12-6 with 90 seconds remaining and a 4th & 10 on our opponent's 38-yard line.  We ran Power, and it resulted in a 38-yard touchdown tying the game at 12.  We no-played the extra point, gaining an off-sides to move the ball to the 1.5 yard line and our QB walked in on a sneak giving us the win at 13-12.  Don't let your opponent steal it from you.

TPJ,

Have you tried putting timid kids who are scared of contact at your DT positions?

A little birdy told me that nobody is better at avoiding blocks than a kid who hates contact!

A fun game to watch.

Coach Terry’s Ravens controlled most of the first half.  Then with less than 2 minutes til halftime and the Ravens leading 6-0, the refs called back a 2nd Ravens TD on a holding call.  The Ravens then throw an ill advised pass that is intercepted and the  Hurricanes get loose for a 90 yard TD run with time running out in the 1st half for a 7-6 halftime lead.

Coach Terry must have got their attention at halftime.  The Ravens ran a reverse for a TD on the very first play of the 2nd half.  The Ravens scored again on a nice drive and shut the Hurricanes out in the 2nd half for an impressive 19-7 win.

Great job Coach Terry Johnson!

It was a great game, was thrilled to have @32wedge there. In fact, the first thing my oldest son asked me after the game was if he was there. I walked over and introduced him 🙂
