My two teams played each other tonight. I coached the Ravens, while one of my assistants coached the Vikings.
The Ravens dominated the first half. We scored on the first play from scrimmage and scored again on 4 plays on the second drive (with the backup QB and C in because our star QB got hurt). Went into the half up 13-0.
The Vikings stopped the Ravens on downs in the third quarter, but it took six minutes off the clock. The Ravens then forced a fumble and went up 19-0.
Just when it looked like the game was going to be a laugher, the Vikings fought back (as they always do... more heart than any team I've ever coached). The star QB ran 14 dive for 69 yards to get them on the board. They forced a fumble on the next drive and took another one to the house to cut it to 19-13.
They never got the ball back. The Ravens ran Triples Left 19 Sweep 7 plays in a row to run the clock out. We had a TD called back on a terrible call -- so terrible I said it "That's a terrible call" out loud. Realizing that kids were watching me, I went over to apologize -- he told me to shut up and go back to the huddle. What a guy!
I'm still buzzing from the game results. Proud of the Ravens for winning and the Vikings for clawing back!!

How did you decide which team to coach?

@coachdp - My son is on the Ravens, so I coached the Ravens. And, yes, he's still furious at me for putting him at center (but he's the best center)
When the two teams play again, I'll probably coach the Vikings, unless the assistant coach wants to do it again. He seemed to enjoy every minute of it yesterday and he did a great job of preparing them.

--That's too bad.

--I wouldn't let an AC dictate policy.
--If you want to be seen by the parents and players as not favoring one over the other, I'd suggest coaching the Vikings next time around. If you coach the Ravens and win again, you're going to be seen as a frontrunner.

-- It's all good. When our QB got hurt, he stepped went to QB and got us on the board. Was super proud of him for that.

-- I didn't mean it like that. He's a good dude and has coached both teams super hard. I was thinking of it more in terms of "Hey, you've done an awesome job. If you want to do it again let me know."

-- I agree with you on this point. If nothing else I can go shoot for the Bum Phillips Award (e.g. he can take his'n and beat your'n and take your'n and beat his'n).

That's definitely the approach I would take.
