We opened up the regular season with the team we played in the first game of the jamboree. Even though we battled some severe focus issues, we clobbered them 26-6.
Note: since the head coach told me I could do whatever I wanted with the line, I moved the line back a little deeper (guard's toe on center's heel) and widened the splits to 6 inches (the kids laughed when I used a dollar to show them). I feel like this gave us better angles on the down blocks. Sweep was open of the night. In fact, only penalties stopped us from scoring in the second half.
Let's hope Thursday's report is just as positive!

--TPJ, what does "focus issues" mean?
Note: since the head coach told me I could do whatever I wanted with the line,
--Which means he has no clue what to do with the line.

--Are you running a scheme, and what blocking rules are you using?
Sweep was open of the night.
--Of course it was. They probably lined up 11 that were barely wider than your offensive formation. Sounds like the ineptitude that we face week in/week out.
In fact, only penalties stopped us from scoring in the second half.
--You didn't score in the 2nd Half?

--TPJ, what does "focus issues" mean?
-- The kids zoned out completely starting at the end of the second quarter. I was telling the guards to get lined up, they were asking me questions about clovers. Or, "Coach you really do look like Al Bundy, did you ever score 4 TD's in a game?"
Note: since the head coach told me I could do whatever I wanted with the line,

-- I'm surprised at how few people do these days. That's why I got involved.

--Are you running a scheme, and what blocking rules are you using?
-- By my stringent standards, no, it's not a scheme. It's lining up in a triple wing and running sweeps, reverses, and an occasional power. We were using GOLD, but we allowed way too much penetration in the second scrimmage of the Jamboree (where they outside gapped us). I adjusted it to GDB. This worked a lot better.

-- Exactly, "Ya'll don't want it. They ain't got but one play".. that's all I heard from the other sideline.
In fact, only penalties stopped us from scoring in the second half.
--You didn't score in the 2nd Half?
-- We did. We had six possessions. Scored on the first three. Had a TD called back on holding penalties on the fourth and fifth, and then scored on a 79-yard run on the following series after we stopped them at the 1-yard line.
