There have been 5,100 posts on ZONE BLOCKING on the Dum Coach site, yet this question of "WHO" to block constantly crops up (the "HOW" to block has been explained many times, and I posted Alex Gibbs' version yesterday).

This is the SIMPLEST EXPLANATION YET ("WHO"):
(From National Champion Alabama).  "Think of ALL zone plays as "MAN" blocking plays FIRST, and, if YOUR man is a LB - zone with adjacent teammate to playside".  There are no if, ands, or buts, about that - that is IT!
Anyone who can't teach THAT MUCH is in trouble (on ANY level).

ALABAMA "SIMPLETON” BLOCKING RULES:

BASE MAN/ZONE (if YOUR man is a LB - zone with adjacent teammate to playside):

OFF H  = #3

OFF T  = #2

OFF G  = #1

CTR    = #0

ON G  = #1

ON T  = #2

ON Y  = #3

PS:  You can ORDER the DVD explaining this for only $15 - strongly recommend):

Joe Pendry – ALABAMA OUTSIDE ZONE-----------2010

Send check for $15 made out to "JMW" (which includes shipping) to:

J.M.W.
4017 Grove Ave.

That talk by Joe Pendry was a great talk.

Michael can not receive PM's, emails or respond to Posts. He passed away in September 2018. To honor his contributions we are leaving his account active. R.I.P - Dumcoach Staff.

Who writes checks? But I am digging you being back Bill, even if I wasn't here when you were here the first time.

Best general explanation I have heard on subject.  I understood it before, but it took me a 2 hour clinic to learn what I just learned in one sentence.

Coach Mountjoy

First, let me say it's a pleasure having you back. Your posts have already been enlighting.

Why is it those that get, understand how simple Zone Blocking is? When we coachify it & try to make it complicated trouble arises. In a few short posts you have explained what has gone on for pages. Thank You!

Bill is back. Sweet!

I second that!

I have a one page sheet of diagrams that shows ALL the blocking assignments on the INSIDE ZONE vs. just about every defense we saw (the zone COMBINATIONS are circled).
NOTE:  The blocking assignments on the OUTSIDE ZONE = the SAME, except the TECHNIQUE is slightly wider.

Anybody wanting this one sheet should email me at:  billmountjoy@yahoo.com  (do so within the next week, because when I move I will not have my computer & computer files handy)!
